Why we're solving the wrong problems (30 minutes)

A call for intentional problem-solving: how to solve the right problem in the right way.

This talk is an invitation for people in tech to spend more time making sure they are solving a real problem in an impactful way.

It’s also a cautionary tale of what can happen when they don’t.

 (Cue ominous wind.)

What's covered:

  1. How to know you’re solving the right problem
  2. The two kinds of big-picture thinking
  3. Why and how to diagnose problems from the inside-out
  4. How to navigate complexity without making (too many) enemies
  5. How to make decisions on where to focus in complex situations

Not Your Average Leadership Talk

The next generation of leaders don't wait for an invitation

A leadership talk that's unlike any other. This talk will explore why leadership doesn't have to look the way we think it does, shifting perspectives and leaving the room ready to go out and ask for what they want.

What's covered:

  1. Why visibility matters
  2. Mindset shift: you get what you accept
  3. Leadership and influence at every level
  4. How to get, keep, and make your own seat at the table

I was inspired by the way it was personal, interesting, and filled with examples that make you think about the larger context and impacts of equitable design. I now look at design projects from a different perspective. For instance, edge cases are always talked about but they are never presented as actual people, and depending on the product, looking at users as stats can be dangerous.

"Roxi’s transparency and eloquence during her presentation was a breath of fresh air. Her thoughtfulness in presenting pertinent information and answering questions proved to me that she not only is able to deliver but she LIVES what she offers at the table.”
